Umlau Peninsula

Further east along the golden coast, and past The Dominion enclave of Pas-Sahelgard is the Umlau Peninsula. The ancestral home to the Umlaui Tribes is largely an untamed wilderness of thick jungle and impenetrable mangrove swamps. Most trade destined further west to workshops of Thaklaz goes to the Gulf of Lamyr and then by caravan overland as only the savviest sailors are willing to test the edges of the Kharybdis Expanse to take the northern traverse around the peninsula.

Officially The Stravin Empire and the Umlaui Tribes have been at war since before the formation of The Deadlands over a thousand years ago. The Umlaui claim to have struck down the Stravin god with their might, which The Stravin Empire flatly denies as outrageous propaganda. Despite this saber rattling, in recent years there has been no major conflict beyond small border raids from both sides. Other nations have enjoyed trade with the Umlaui and even guided exploration through some of their lands. Though the tribes are slow to trust and keep many sacred areas off-limits to outsiders.

The entire Umlau Peninsula is made up of several tribes, the most prominent one is known as the Vlaanpura and is led by Chief Sharvok. The Umlaui have great reverence for the land and the natural world. Their tales speak of sacred trees and mountains within their territory that they seek wisdom from as well as myths that they used to walk alongside giants. However outside scholars believe these "nature spirits" are likely to be some ploy by fey infiltrators to gain a foothold in Valyr.
