Sharing a northern coastline with Anderlynd, Kalais' grand ports have been a gem of the Golden Sea's trade hubs since time immemorial. Known as the breadbasket of the continent, Kalais sits at the heart of northern Ur'vael with rolling fields and fertile lands. The kingdom is well renowned for all manner of art, learning and culture, and the Grand Academy of Kalais is the largest establishment for mundane and magical learning on the continent. The people of Kalais hold religion, tradition and history in high regard, with the chivalrous knights of the Order Rosaire serving as both defenders and peacekeepers within the realm. Luminism is the only accepted faith in Kalais, though unlike The Stravin Empire they worship all Luminarchs equally. They believe Kalais is the nation most devout and favoured of the gods. In fact many of the Kalain aristocracy, including her majesty Queen Geneviève de Mont, are of Ahleár lineage. Their claim is further supported by hosting a genuine angel as a permanent guest at Court. What started as a wandering cloaked stranger spreading blessings in the countryside over 10 years ago, the angel Orion was unmasked and given residence in the royal palace. He has been sharing the wisdom of the gods from there ever since. The border between mainland Anderlynd and Kalais has been contested and redrawn many times over the centuries. Though both sides have respect and honour for one another, the rivalry between the uncultured Anderlyndians and the pompous Kalains runs deep.
