The Dominion

Across the Golden Sea to the West of Anderlynd is the exotic continent of Dussar. A land of harsh deserts and wild jungles that obfuscate the true vastness of the continent from most that seek to map it. There are deep scars across the landscape of Dussar from ancient times when it is said demonic warlords ruled from darkened strongholds. Along the eastern coastline of this unforgiving terrain are bastions of order and trade. This collection of old city-states carved from rock and clay form the heart of The Dominion. The Merchant Princes do not prescribe to an inherited right to rule, and their culture functions very differently to the monarchies and councils of Ur'vael. The Dussari also have an interesting concept of sovereignty around land ownership - they view land as common ground, as only material wealth can be truly owned by another. This has seen several nations secede territories to The Dominion in order to accommodate Merchant Princes and their vast trade network.

Influences of The Dominion have done much for the betterment and advancement of human civilisation, trade and travel in Ur'vael. They brought a standardised coin and calendar to streamline open trade that is now used continent wide, facilitate diplomatic talks through their neutral territories and envoys, and introduced the concept of Guilds and the Charter that organises them. Though certainly a force for peace and prosperity, The Dominion can't shake the rumours of being the unseen hands behind major events. The first-among-equals of the Merchant Princes is presently Princess Shirin ei-Azahn the Wise, she is notably the grandmother of King Aiden Whitlock of Anderlynd. The alliance between The Dominion and Anderlynd has been a prosperous one for both nations. However with recent turmoil in Anderlynd what once was a strong bond may have soured and there are whispers from rival Princes that perhaps they too should look at new leadership.

Some impoverished or foolhardy merchants turn to a life of piracy or ruin delving to make their fortune. These acts are generally frowned upon officially, however if you make enough wealth all can be forgiven by one of the Princes. Though The Dominion relies heavily on wit and trade, they are more than capable of defending themselves, boasting world-class naval might. When other nations were young the Dussari survived against ancient evils and built themselves up to be a power felt across the seas. There are even those that believe Dussari mystery cults may have access to relics and dark magics from those ancient times. In any case, woe to those that break an agreement with The Dominion, may their wells run dry and all their fruits turn to cinders.
